Ciena offers certifications in two categories:

  • Optical Communication Certification (OC Certification)
  • Ciena Routing and Switching Certification (CRS Certification)

 

Certification Levels

 

Optical Communications Certification Exam Path Guidelines as follows:

Course Level

Requirements for (Pre-Assessment for OC-A)

Requirements to attempt the Associate Level Exam (OC-A)

Requirements to attempt the Professional Level Exam (OC-P)

Requirements to attempt the Consultant Level Exam (OC-C)

Requirements 

No prerequisites required. 


The pre-assessment is not required for the OC-A course. However, a candidate must pass the OC-A pre-assessment on their first attempt if they wish to skip attending the OC-A course and take the OC-A exam. 

Pre-Assessment for OC with 90% or more grade on the first attempt

Certification Features

  • Learning Options:
    • Web-based (self-paced): Available for Associate-level certifications only.
    • Instructor-led (virtual or in-person): Available for all levels (Associate, Professional, Consultant).
  • Pre-assessment Exams: Free online pre-assessment exams are available for Associate-level certifications. Passing with 90%+ on the first attempt allows learners to bypass the course and purchase the certification exam.
  • Certification Validity:
    • Certifications are valid for three years.
    • Learners can purchase and pass the applicable exam for recertification before expiration.
    • Expired certifications require purchase and completion of the course and applicable exam, and passing the applicable exam.
  • Exam Attempts: Each exam purchase includes two attempts. After failing twice, learners must re-purchase the course and exam.
  • Materials: Learners receive electronic guidebooks; hard copies are available at an additional cost.
  • Badges and Certificates: Upon passing an exam with 80%+, learners receive a digital badge and downloadable certificate.

Learning Delivery Options

  1. Web-based Associate Certification Courses:
    • Self-paced format for Associate-level certifications.
    • Includes access to courseware and exams.
  2. Private/Dedicated Instructor-led Training:
    • Structured virtual or in-person classes for up to 12 learners.
    • Requires scheduling and roster submission.
  3. Public/Seat-based Instructor-led Training:
    • Virtual classes for individual learners.
    • Limited to 12 learners per session.

Responsibilities

Ciena Responsibilities:

  • Provide access to course materials, exams, and certifications.
  • Issue badges and certificates upon successful completion.
  • Schedule and manage instructor-led sessions.

Customer Responsibilities:

  • Register accounts on Ciena's portals.
  • Limit portal access to authorized learners.
  • Protect user credentials and comply with course guidelines.

General Terms

  • Proprietary Content: Ciena training materials are copyrighted and cannot be replicated or distributed without permission.
  • Payment Terms: Payment is due within 30 days of invoicing.
  • Modifications: Customers can swap courses for equal or lesser value if the course has not been launched or attended. Refunds are not allowed.
  • Reperformance: Customers dissatisfied with services can request reperformance within 48 hours of identifying nonconformities.

Rescheduling and Cancellation Fees

  • Private/Dedicated Instructor-led Training:
    • More than 20 business days: No fee.
    • 15–20 business days: 25% fee.
    • 6–14 business days: 50% fee.
    • 5 or fewer business days: 100% fee.
  • Public Virtual Sessions:
    • More than 10 business days: No fee.
    • 3–10 business days: 25% fee.
    • 2 or fewer business days: 100% fee.
