Ciena provides an Associate‑level Certification Pre‑Assessment to help learners evaluate their readiness before attempting a Ciena Associate‑level certification exam.
The OC-A Pre‑Assessment consists of 40 questions, and learners must achieve a minimum score of 90% to pass.
A key benefit of the Pre‑Assessment is that learners who pass on their first attempt may be eligible to bypass the corresponding Associate‑level course and proceed directly to the Certification exam.
Learners may enroll in the Associate‑level Pre‑Assessments through the Ciena Learning site:

Pre‑Assessment Process –
- Log in to the Ciena Learning site.
- Enroll in the Associate‑level Pre‑Assessment.
- Attempt the Pre‑Assessment.
- If you score 90% or above on your first attempt, you may:
- Bypass the applicable Associate‑level course, and
- Proceed directly to the Certification exam
5. Learners who pass the Pre‑Assessment on the first attempt must contact the Ciena Learning
Support team at support.learning@ciena.com for guidance and further enrolment in the OCA
Certification exam.
Attempt and Bypass Policy
- Learners are allowed up to 5 attempts to complete the Associate‑level Pre‑Assessment.
- Only a first‑attempt pass qualifies a learner to bypass the corresponding certification course.
- If a learner does not pass on the first attempt:
- Course bypass is not permitted, and
- Any remaining attempts may be used for practice purposes only.
