The videos on our site are hosted by Vimeo Pro, which is one of the most professional and trusted video-sharing websites in the world.

Unfortunately, like many other prominent video-sharing websites, Vimeo is blocked in various countries in the world, including China and Indonesia.

This means that if you connect to our Breatheology World eLearning Platform, you may experience issues watching the video material in the course as the site hosting the video (Vimeo) is blocked.

Before you request a refund and give up on changing your life and those around you through conscious breathing, check out and try the following workarounds:

  • Use a VPN service
  • Use a Smart DNS Proxy
  • Use a Remote Desktop Connection

VPN service

The last few years that has been an increase in the use of VPN’s and thus, an increase in the VPN services. A VPN can help you surpass internet censorship and allow you to watch the videos on our site, even if Vimeo is blocked in your country.

What is a VPN?

VPN stands for Virtual Private Network and creates a virtual tunnel to guide your internet traffic through. You no longer directly connect to a website; instead, you connect to the VPN and the VPN, in turn, connects to the website.

Why does a VPN work?

Your internet service provider will only see you connect to the VPN. It will not see what website you are looking at as this information is transferred to you through the virtual tunnel.

How do I get a VPN?

There are many VPN services out there – both free and paid. In general, it is advised to choose for a reliable paid VPN service as they are more secure and do not limit your internet speed as much as free alternatives.

Smart DNS Proxy

Another way to access our videos if Vimeo is blocked in your country is to use a Smart DNS Proxy. There are various Smart DNS Proxy services out of there. The services are relatively inexpensive and have no big impact on your internet speed.

How does a Smart DNS Proxy work?

A Smart DNS Proxy changes your DNS (Domain Name System) settings to a DNS server in a different location, allowing you to see the content of a website.

A DNS server translates the URL you wish to visit (e.g. www.breatheology.com) to an IP-address (in this case, 104.198.107.10) which computers can understand.

The standard DNS settings automatically assign you to a DNS server close to your location for speed and connectivity reasons.

It is through this DNS server that a website will identify your location and block your access. If you use a Smart DNS Proxy, the website will identify a different location and thus grant you access.

Remote Desktop Connection

If you are traveling or have family in another country, you can consider setting up a Remote Desktop Connection. This will allow you to connect to a computer abroad and control the screen from a distance.

Instead of logging on to Breatheology World from your own computer, you connect from the other computer.

You can use built-in tools, such as Apple Remote Desktop (Mac) or Remote Desktop Connection (Windows) or use 3rd party software such as TeamViewer to setup this connection.

Conclusion

All three options have their positives and negatives. The use of VPN is outlawed in some countries, the Smart DNS Proxy does not work for everyone and the Remote Desktop Connections requires a trusted 3rd person to setup.
